That means you can expect to pay about $15,000 less for a place in this state than you would elsewhere. Lafayette and Abbeville both have some very affordable properties for sale

If you have never been to New Orleans, you'll want to check it out when you get to Louisiana. One frequent stop on such tours is the St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, which was built in 1789. Other historic and possibly even haunted buildings include the LaLaurie Mansion, Oak Valley Plantation, and Shreveport Municipal Auditorium

Sports are big in this state, with lots of well-known teams playing here. The New Orleans Saints and the Louisiana State University Tigers are the ones to watch when it comes to football. If you want to watch baseball, check out the New Orleans Zephyrs, while the New Orleans Pelicans play basketball

There are plenty of great spots for you to explore the water in this state. Head to Chicot State Park if you want to fish in the many streams or take out your kayak or canoe on the lake. Of course, there are also lots of bays for you to choose from if you simply head south to the Gulf Coast. They include Vermilion Bay, West Cote Blanche Bay, and Black Bay

Plenty of vacant homes! You can probably find what you need as far as Louisiana home listings, because the vacancy rate is a bit higher than the national average at nearly 14%. If you want lots of options, New Orleans is a great place to start, due to the vacancy rate of about 23%. The smaller city of Elmwood also has an impressive vacancy rate of 15%, which is useful when you're house hunting

Louisiana has more than 20 state parks, and they're all worth a visit. You can take a boat through the Gulf of Mexico when you check out Cypremort Point State Park, while the trails of Cypress Black Bayou are perfect for a hike.
