Notable Areas:

Columbus:
The state capital, Columbus is named for explorer Christopher Columbus. The city was founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, and in 1816 assumed the functions of state capital. The city has a diverse economy that thrives on education (Ohio State University is the largest university in the United States), insurance, healthcare (Central Ohio is home to three major hospital), retail, and technology. Money Magazine acknowledged Columbus as the 8th best large city in the U.S. to inhabit; it is also recognized as an emerging global city. Residents of Columbus are usually referred to as Columbusites.

Columbus also has a number of distinctive neighborhoods within its metro area. The Short North, found just north of downtown, is abundant with art galleries, fine dining, pubs, and specialty shops. Just nearby, you’ll find a number of large, ornate Victorian and together they comprise Victorian Village. Slightly westward is Harrison West and across the Olentangy River is Grandview Heights. To the south is the infamous German Village known for its quaint 19th century brick cottages and it holds the distinction as the largest privately funded historic district on the National Register of Historic Places (see more details below). Immediately west is the Brewery District, formerly known as more recreational neighborhood which has seen a decrease in bars and an increase in residential and office development. To the east of Downtown and north of Broad St. is King-Lincoln Bronzeville, or just "King-Lincoln", which was the cultural and commercial hub of the African-American community.

Other:                                                                                                                                                                                                     German Village is located just south of downtown Columbus. This immigrant community built in the 1830s and 40s became an historic district in the 1970s and is now filled with restored homes, quaint shops, restaurants, and more. The nearby Brewery District got its name from small family-owned breweries that were sprinkled throughout, but today it features restaurants and redevelopment. Ohio is also home to The Ohio Statehouse, built between the years 1839 and 1861 in the Greek Revival style, Ohio Theater, 2,779-seat Spanish-Baroque masterpiece, complete with its own orchestra and theatre organ, Hocking Hills, region just south of Columbus known filled with picturesque terrain and beautiful rocky gorges and sandstone cliffs more than 300 million years old, as well as numerous other landmarks.
