The largest city in Alabama, Birmingham is the county seat of Jefferson County. Birmingham was founded in 1871, just after the Civil War and was named after one of the UK’s major industrial cities. Birmingham has been the primary industrial center of the Southern United States in the twentieth century and has earned the nicknames “The Magic City” and “The Pittsburgh of the South”. Birmingham is famous for its iron and steel production.

The capital of Alabama, Montgomery is the county sear of Montgomery County. It is located in the Gulf Coastal Plain, in the southeast of the center of the state. In the mid-twentieth century, Montgomery was the primary site of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Montgomery has a large military presence due to Maxwell Air Force Base.

Mobile is the county seat of Mobile County. It is located on the Mobile River and the central Gulf Coast of the U.S and is the only seaport in Alabama.
